World History Current Event 12/4/12

(CNN) -- Enrique Pena Nieto was sworn in as Mexico's new president Saturday, returning his party to power and promising to change the country's fight against organized crime.
Pena Nieto belongs to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which ruled Mexico for more than 70 years before losing the presidency in 2000.
"We are a nation that is going at two different speeds. There's a Mexico of progress and development. But there's another, too, that lives in the past and in poverty," he said during his inaugural address at the National Palace in Mexico City.
"Mexico has not achieved the advances its people demand and deserve," he said.

What Mexico can accomplish for U.S.
Pena Nieto, 46, promised to create economic opportunities and reduce violence. Peace, he said, would be his government's first goal.
More than 60,000 people lost their lives in drug-related violence during the six-year term of his predecessor, Felipe Calderon.
Without jobs and social programs, Pena Nieto has said, millions of people will turn to crime.
Pena Nieto said earlier this week that his security strategy will focus on reducing the drug-related violence, though he provided few specifics about how he would stem the violence or what aspects of Calderon's strategy he will change.
The two men took part in handover ceremonies.
Exactly as scheduled, at 12:01 a.m. local time, Calderon and Pena Nieto walked down the escalators to a patio in the National Palace.
In a ceremony lasting about five minutes, Calderon received the national flag from a military school cadet and immediately handed it to Pena Nieto. The act symbolized the transfer of command of the security forces.
Afterward, both men greeted members of the new Cabinet, then the outgoing Cabinet members.
Minutes later, in a separate ceremony, Pena Nieto conducted the oath of office of the new Security Cabinet, comprised of Miguel Angel Osorio Chong as the head of the Ministry of the Interior, Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda as head of the Ministry of National Defense and Vidal Soberon Sanz as Secretary of the Navy.
Pena Nieto said the new government had taken office "from the first minute of this day."
"A governmental transition has been completed in an orderly, legal and transparent fashion," he said.
"This process has helped to preserve the political stability, economic and social development of the nation. Mexico has shown democratic maturity and institutional strength," he said. "In accordance with Article 83 of the constitution, today I begin to exercise the honorable position of president of the United States of Mexico."
As Pena Nieto was being sworn in, his opponents clashed with police outside Congress. Video showed protesters hurling rocks at metal barriers, as police fired back with tear gas.
Pena Nieto won 38% of the vote in July, besting his closest competitor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who garnered some 32% of the vote and refused to accept the result.
Pena Nieto and Calderon took to social media to commemorate the transition.
"My term ends, but not my commitment to Mexico, which I will continue fighting until the last of my days," Calderon tweeted.
Another of his tweets read: "The handover of the national flag for the change of guard from the president to the president-elect symbolizes the transfer of command."

  3. This article is about the new president of Mexico and his taking of office. He took office 12:01a.m. our time. The new president (Pena Nieto) promised to reduce the violence rate. He promised to create peace.
The last president (Felipe Calerdon) wanted a recount. His supporters would not take it. A video shows protesters throwing rocks at police and police fighting back with tear gas.
"My term ends, but not my commitment to Mexico, which I will continue fighting until the last of my days," - Felipe Caledro
This relates to me as an American because we just had an election. Barack Obama won our election. Mitt Romney was our expected winner. One thing Obama promsed was Obama Care (a form of Health Care).
Romney was not as upset over losing to Mr. Obama. He took it as it came. He made a small speech congratulating the president who will resume office January 1, 2013 and will end four year term December 31, 2016.
It also relates to me because the PRI lost the election in 2000 and i was born in 200.

  4. What I think this article is about is Mexico's new president. The new president Enrique Pena, was sworn into office on saturday and he is now going to put drugs out of use by createing new laws. The new president has new ideas about making his country safe from druggies. These new laws will make it harder to transfer drugs across the border and into the united states. This new president has ideas that i think will help not only Mexico's aconomy but will also help our country as well.
This effects me becuase these new laws may stop the amount of drugs coming into our country. This will cause the drugman to stop making drugs and stop the drug business. His new laws will probably help us have less illegal immagrants come into the country and make our country worse than it has ever been. We are always happy with a new president and i am shure they are happy too. I hope they have a good president and i hope we do too.

  5. This artical affects me as an american because the people that live there have to worry about drug wars. That affects me because im thankful that i dont have to worry about drug wars because we stop the drug wars.

This artical is about a guy trying to be president of mexico to try to stop the drug violince. while the new goverment was trying to win the election the police where fighting against people. but the other goverment that lost tweeted i will still try to stop this violince.

  6. Mexico has a new leader now his name is Pena Nieto. One of the goals that he wants to achieve while he is in office is to stop drug violence. When the last president (Felipe Calderon) was in office there were more than 60,000 deaths that were related to drug violence.Pena came into office at 12:01 a.m. local time.

One way that this affects me is that drug dealers from Mexico could possibly be stopped from crossing the boarder into the United States.President Obama could possibly work with Pena Nieto to see if they both could put more soldiers or guards on the boarder so they could stop the drug dealers. In doing so they could stop illegal immigrants from crossing the boarder too.If we could do this then we would not have to worry about a lot of illegal drugs getting in to the U.S.

This article was about how there is a new president of Mexico. His name is Pena Nieto. He promised to reduce the rate of violence. He also promised to create peace. The president took office at 12:01a.m.The president also promised to create economic opportunities.Pena Nieto belongs to the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
This relates to me because we just had a election. It was against Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.Barack Obama won. The president of Mexico (Pena Nieto) promised to take down the risk of violence and so does Barack Obama. This also relates to me because Mexico buys stuff off of us and we buy stuff off of them. Also we have factories in Mexico. Most of the people I know work in factories.

  8. My article is about Pena Nieto and how he is president and talks about how he wants to take office. Pena Nieto was sworn in as Mexico's president. Pena Nieto promised to change the country's fight against organized crime. Pena Nieto siad that peace would be his Government's first goal. His first goal as a president is to help envalate drug violence. He belongs to the Institutional Revolutionary party. Feline Calderon was Mexico's former president. The Institutional Revolutionary part ruled Mexico for more than seventy years. More than sixty-thousand people died from drug-related violence during the six-years that Felipe Calderon was one of his predecessor.

This article effects me as an American because i want our world to be crime free. People should not go out and shoot people cause they fell like it cause if they do then for one they will go to jail and for too they will not go to heaven cause god does not like killers and i do not ether. I want to beable to go out in this world with out haveing to be scared because i know that there are people out there shooting people.I want to have freedom for evryone. So our world is a better world. That is my point of view.

  9. Mexico just recently elected a new president just like the U.S.A. Enrique Pena Nieto has been elected the Mexico president. He belongs to the Institutional Revolutionary party.Pena Nieto's first goal as president his to evaluate drug related voilence. Mexico's former president was Felipe Calderon.

This effects me because a lot of Mexicans are illegally crossing over the border and selling illegal drug.President Obama and President Nieto could come together and try to solve this problem by maybe having official guards on each side of the border.Another way this could effect me is President Nieto and President Obama could not get along and Mexico could close all ties with the U.S.A. President Obama could also chose to close all ties with Mexico and the U.S.A gets a lot of supplies from Mexico as well.

    1. In Mexico they have a new president. He wants to keep peace with us. The big thing he wants to stop drug vilence. Drugs are bad there and it is his biggest worrie.

This relates to me because it can help the U.S. It will keep drugs for the U.S. I hope he keeps his promises so drugs are stoped. They are bad on the border of Texas and mexico. i hope he follows through his plans.

    2. I thought this article was very interesting. It was mostly about Mexico getting a new president Pena Nieto. His goals are to lower the drug rate in Mexico.Drugs are a serious problem in Mexico right now.

this affects me as an American because a lot of drugs from Mexico go to America. There is also a big problem on illegal immigrants.I hope the new president ca approach these problems.

    3. This article was really interesting. It was about how the new president of Mexico was sworn into office on Saturday. He was sworn into office by former president of Mexico, Filipe Calderon. Nieto says while he is president he wants to reduce gang violence and drug cartel in Mexico. Pena Nieto was sworn into office at 12:01 local time. WHile the ceremony was going on, protesters were outside. When the election as over Nieto won 38% while his oponent only had 32% and refused to accept the loss.

This affects me as an american citizen becauseif the new president does all the things that he says he is going to do that will mean more peace between the U.S and Mexico. there will be fewer gangs, so less violence. there will be less drugs and drug dealers. There will also be less immigration therefore more trust and better trade.

    4. I think this article is about Mexico getting a new president. Pena Nieto was elected on Saturday December 2nd. He promised to stop drug related violence and drugs themselves. This has many protesters going against it. He also promises more jobs because without jobs people resolve to violence. He was recently handed the flag to show transition of military power. His compitition rufused to accept the results of the vote.
This article affects me as an american citizen because if the drug sellers realize that they are in danger of being stopped so they might move to the US. We have enough problems of our own to take care of, I am sure we don't need bad people to come here and cause trouble. This also could be a good thing. If the new president lives up to his promises then he will make Mexico a better place to live which of course would draw attention from the illeagal immigrants. Which would convince them to leave back to Mexico. (Which means I don't have to learn spanish - yea! )

  10. This article was about Mexico's new president. Enrique Pena Nieto, is their new president. He wants to reduce violence and stop the drug cartel. Their former president, Felipe Calderon, also wants to help change Mexico.

This affects me because a lot of Hispanics cross the border and bring a lot of drugs to sell. If the try to get rid of all the drugs and violence, we could also have less in the U.S.

  11. In this article Mexico elected a new president to office. Pena Nieto is their new president. His plans are to end drug cartel and reduce violence. Their former president Felipe Calderon disagreed his loss.

This affects me because many Mexicans have crossed the border and sell drugs to Americans that harms them.2-5 million people die each year of drugs.

  12. In Mexico, on December 3, 2012 a new president came into office. His name is Enrique Pena Nieto. He said he wants to reduce violence and stop drug trafficking. When they made him president there was so many people that didn't like him that they protested. The old president was Felispe Calderer. The competer didn't want to accept his loss though.

This article affects me as an american because the United States would be a lot different. Like if there was a protest for Obama because he won the election and people didn't like him. It also affects me as an american because the United States would be a lot more violent. I know that this kind of thing (protesting)happens a lot in Mexico.

  13. This article is about how Mexico voted on their new president. His name is Peno Nieto. This man is forcused on reducing violence and stoping drugs. He also wants peace for Mexico's community. Former president Felipe Calderon wants to help in changing Mexico's society.

I beleive that this article affects me as an American because a lot of Mexicans cross this border to come to America. Those Hispanics can bring drugs to sell and more fights with us Americans. I think that if Mexico can stop their violence so can we.

  14. This article is about the new president of Mexico. His name is Enrique Pena Nieto and he plans to make big changes in Mexico to make it safer. He promised to make laws to stop all of the violence and drugs. If his plans work out hopefully they will make it safer for us here in the U.S. too.

This affects me as an American because a lot of people are Hispanics who come here to America illegally. Sometimes that isn't safe because they can sneak weapons and drugs here. Also we don't want to get into war or fights with Mexico. If the laws Pena Nieto make go the way they are supposed to we could also be healthier her in America without all of the drugs.

  15. This article was about how in Mexico Pena Nieto was swrorn into presidentency. It talks about in the ceremony the old president is handed the flag then gave it quickly to Pena. This symbolizes the transfer of power to from one to the other. The new president promised to reduce the drugs and violence in this country.

This article affects me because we are a neighboring country to Mexico. Here in the U.S. many illegal "aliens" cross the border to get out of the violence filled Mexico. What some carry with them are illegal drugs. They are sold here to residents of the U.S. I'm relieved that someone is finally going to do something about it.

  16. This article is about how Mexico got a new president. His name is Peno Nieto. One of his goals as president is to reduce violence. While he was being sworn in protesters were throwing rocks at metal barriers and police were firing back with tear gas.

I think this article affects me because drug dealers in Mexico are coming across the border and selling their drugs in the U.S. I think that President Obama and President Peno should work together and put more soliders on both sides of the border. Then that would on the stop drug dealers from coming into the United States. With better security on the border more drugs could be seized and off the streets in both the U.S. and in Mexico. This would also reduce violence since much is related to drug trafficking.

  17. The artical is mainly about mexico's new president Peno Nieto. He wants to stop dugs from being carried to the U.S and reduce violence in Mexico. Former president Felipe Calgeron also want's to help chang Mexico. I Mexico More than sixty-thousand people died from the drug realated violence in six years.

This effects me because if the drugs get carried to the U.S more, it may end up near where I live. If the drugs stop being carried from Mexico there would be a lot less drugs here in the U.S. If the new president speaks his word maybe drugs would go away in Mexico, and I might be able to go to Mexico sometime.

He gave his speech about what he is going to do as president. One thing he is going to do is end the drug violence that is happining right now. More than 60,000 people have died.

This would effect me as an American because if we didn't have people protecting the U.S. we would do drugs all day long. It would also effect me as an American because y re people would die from drug use. Another reason is it would cause another war. My last reason is if we went to war with Mexico not only will more people die but their would be no trade for a long time.

  19. This article is about how Mexico got a new president. The new president's name was Peno Nieto. The new president wants to stop drugs from entering the U.S. and reduce violence related to drugs. The old president, Felipe Calgeron, also thinks Mexico needs to change its ways. The new president said he is going to reduce the violence and drugs in Mexico.

This article affects me because drugs get carried to the U.S from Mexico. If drugs stop coming to the U.S., I think the U.S. will have less violence. There would be fewer people using or buying drugs. I think if the Mexico president would take a hard stand against drugs it would improve the situation.

  21. This article is abut electing a new president in Mexico. Enrique Pena Nieto promised to change the country's fight against crime. This article affects me because people who do drugs in Mexico could come across the border and harm Americans. Also is in Mexico if there were more jobs, more people would be focused on that than drugs. It could also be the same in America, if more people had jobs there would be less people getting killed due to drugs. This is how the article affects me as an American.

  22. This article talks about how Mexico has elected a new president into office, Pena Nieto. He will be succeeding President Felipe Calderon. One of Pena Nieto's main goals for Mexico are to stop the drug cartel, which also will stop Mexican drugs from entering the US. His other main goals are to create a better economy and reduce violence.

This article affects me because the US's main source for drugs is Mexico. Most of those drugs are ILLEGAL in the US, and are a danger to our people. If Mexico stopped their drug cartel, the drugs in our country would slowly diminish. Drugs have affected people i know and love greatly, and if Mexico's drug cartel was defeated, then i would be relieved knowing those people might be safer.

This article effects me as an American because if the drug cartel in Mexico doesn`t stop soon enough, then the drugs could get to the U.S. Many other countries have different laws than the U.S. concerning drugs. Many of the drugs they have in Mexico may be illegal in the U.S.
