  1. this artical is about indias caste system and how it affects the united states of america because not every body gets treated the same.

this affects me because im glad that i get treated like everyone else and it affects me because the untouchables have to bang sticks every where they go to tell people their around.

  2. This artical is about a lady named Maya. She is a untouchable in the India caste system. She has more money than most untouchables. Her job of taking trash is mostly done by machines now. She soon will retire.

This connects to me because it is like today. Today shes like the middle class. We have to do the jobs. The rich just sit all day and have people to do everything for then. These are ways this artical connects to me.

  3. this artical is showing about Indias caste syatem and someone who lives with it.this artical gave me a true meaning about how much better off we are in america and how fortinate we are.

this really showed me a true taste of what the indian caste system is.In america everybody has a chance to make them selfs better as a person , but in the indian caste system you are stuck wherever you start. This affects me as an American because it showed me how fortinate we really are , and I am glad that America is the way it is.This is how I feel about this artical.

  4. The article was about how the caste system effects everyone in the Indian culture. There was this girl named Maya who wants to have justice and peace in India. She is an untouchable. She has to do the dirty jobs that the people in the upper class don't have too.Untouchables have to bang sticks togather so that people down the rode can here them coming and move out of the way. This is what the article was about.

The way that this effects me as an American is i hope that we do not us the caste system like the Indians do. It would not be fun to be part of the lower classes and to be an untouchable. I think it is not right what India has in there counrty and we don't need it here. In the 1960's there was a movement for civil rights. During that time white people thought that they were better than the Negro's. Black people could not eat in the same places as the white people and they have fixed it now becuase all people are equal.

  5. This article is about India's caste system. India has a caste system that goes on top is the priests, then under them is the warriors, under them is just the common people, and finally under them is the servants. The thing that makes me think is that the untouchables are not on the caste system. untouchables are people too. People need to think that they didn't choose to be an untouchable they were born that way. The untouchables had to click sticks to tell people that they're untouchables run. People should be treated all the same. Like in 1970 Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for black rights. Now look at us if he never would have spoke up we might still be living like that today. Also when Rosa Parks got in trouble for trying to sit any where she wants. I just think if you want to be treated nice you need to treat others good too.

This would affect me by if this came back to the U.S. we would be in a horrible living style. If people would be treated bad because of your color of your skin then what's next judging people by there ears. This world would turn on each other and then the unthinkable would happen. As long as people don't go back to making blacks there slaves we would be all good.

  6. this article is about the india's class system. the class system has priests, then under the priest are the warriors then at the bottom are the untouchables. the untouchables had to clack sticks when they come into the city so everyone could get away. i dont know why the untouchables are the way they are. the untouchables are the same kind of people that everyone else are. they arnt any diffrent. i think everyone should be treated the same i dont think anyone should be treated any diffrent.

this article affects me because in the united states it was the same way with the black and the white. if nobody did anythange to stop it our lives would not be fair. our lives would not be the same as it is now.

  7. I think this article was about indias caste system. peace is what I think of as the main idea in this cast. If their is peace their is no fighting but if their isin't their isin't. I think that if India fix's it even more it will be a better life for every woman and child to help them survive the many mistakes and hardships.

This article affects me becuase if it is better their it will be better here. If the united states had a caste it realy dosent show anymore. India already has trouble as it is and if that helps it helps.

  8. This aticle is about how this caste system has been there for almost half a century(100 years). It is still being used by those who believe in the Buddha.Where this is all happeding is in India. There are 4 parts to the caste system, first the preists second is the warriors, third is the commoners, last the Untouchables are to be belived as not part of the caste system at all.At least the government sent out garbage trucks instead of making the untouchables do it.

How this article relates to me because we here in America also live under a "class system". The only difference here is that we aren't strict at all. Here we even allow same sex marriages. In India it is so strict that they are just now allowing different varna marriages. Our wonderful government works like this: you are born to your parents, you grow up,and YOU chose what class you are going to be in.

  9. Maya is a woman that is in India she is at the bottom of the cast system. She is a unchable but they give her food to take out the trash. The caste system is for every one in India.

this could efect me cause if she did not take out the trash. It would pill up then no one would take it out. It could dothe same thing here if we did not have people to take the trash out.

  10. This article is about Indias unfair caste system.India has high and low class.there are the Brahmins at the high class and the untouchables at the low clss.

It affects me because i think everybody is the same as you and me.I think Indias caste system is very unfair to yhe untouchables.

  11. This paragraph is about how the Untouchables want to be part of India's caste system. The Untouchables also want more rights just like the Brhamins. Maya,a Vaishya, wants peace in India. Maya owns a business in India.

This would affect me as an American because if we had a caste system we would probly be at war. It would also effect me as an American because if I was an untouchable I would want to be part of the caste system. Thank goodness we don't have caste system. If we did Iwould move out of the U.S.

  12. This article was about a person that interviewed his Untouchable,Maya, who has served his family for 35 years. When he interviewed her Maya told him that she remains an Untouchable because it holds the best option for her, even in modern India.
This article told us that even though the caste system system has no legal properties, people still treat it like it does.Today the caste system is beginning to fade. We can see this because Maya's son is now a man who has a government job for a major company.

I can connect to this article because I know what it's like to be the odd man out. I understand how the Untouchables feel like when they are kept out of peoples homes because they are a little different. The only thing I can't connect with is why the higher castes are still treating them like animals after centuries. Differences are good, and they need to realize that before a war starts.

  13. This article is about a girl named Maya. She is an Untouchable. She has to dirty work that knnow one else wants to do. India is now using vans to pick up trash. Which Maya and fellow Untouchables don't like. India gives Maya and her family about $100 for food and other needs. One of her sons wants her to retire but she refuse to.

I can relate to this article because in America we have garbage trucks that pick up our garbage. Another way I can relate is we have to do chores but not as bad as what Untouchables have to do. In the 1960's people were not treated equally but now all people are treated equally. That's what's happening in India. I think that people in India should all be treated equally.

  14. This article is about India's caste system. In this article they talk to an untouchable and explain what their life is like. Specifically it tells what a girl named Maya's life is like as an untouchable.

This article affects me because, with my experiences, everyone is the same and everyone should treat everyone the same and if America was like this today we would have many more fights. I'm glad that America is not like this.

  15. I think this article is about the caste system in India. It specifically talked about an untouchable named Maya. She works for a family of a higher caste. She did housework, and cleaned. Though she wasn't forced to stay and clean. She could walk out if she didn't like the atmosphere that she is being treated.
This article affects me as an American citizen because if this kind of situation starts happening here then we wouldn't be a free country. It draws attention on how we have a fair system among our people and not all other countries a're that lucky.

This article affects me because we live in a class system. There is the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class.Compared to the caste system, our class system is really different. In the caste system, when your born you can't change your caste but in our class system you can go from being in the lower class to being in the upper class.

  17. This article is about the Untouchables and their role in daily life in India. Being an Untouchable means you are in a caste in India that is not really considered a caste. A caste is what we would consider to be a class here in USA. The caste system is a class system, the Untouchables would be the VERY lowest caste there is. The caste system is based on your race (color).

This relates to me because we have a class system, our class system is based on your income (how much you make a year). most Americans would be in the middle or middle-high class. My family would be in the middle class. This also effects me because we just finished learning about India in social studies. It was a very interesting unit.

  18. This article is about the caste system. In India the caste system is a problem to them and the unfairness. India has the high class and the lower class. There is a girl named Maya who lives in India, and she wants peace and justice. Maya is an untouchable. She has to do more work than the upper class people do. Untouchables have to bang sticks together for the people to hear them on the side of the rode.
This article affects me as an American, in that we don't have a caste system. I am very lucky that we don't have a caste system because it is unfair to the people and for the lower caste people.I don't think it is right for them to have that problem in India, and I hope we don't have a caste system someday.

  19. This artical is about the indias caste system. Maya is a woman that is at the bottom of the caste system because she is an untouchable. They give her food to take out the trash. The goverment is now sending garbage trucks insted of making untouchables do it.

This artical affects me because everybody should be in the same caste so they are treated the same. At least they nead to be more fair to the untouchables. I hope us americans never go to the same caste system as india.

  20. This articale is about India and their unfair caaste system.Maya is an untouchable who works for people in higher castes cleaning homes. In the caste system the Indians are to believe that the Untouchables are not in the caste system. India's caste system is made by the richest people to the poorest, not including the untouchables.

This articale affects me because the u.s. in the future might decide that they like how india's caste system is and work it that way. I don't think that wouldn't be good. No one in the u.s. would want to be told who they can't and can't talk to or what you may be able to do and not be able to do.

  21. This article was about how the caste system effects everyone in the Indian culture. There is this girl named Maya. She is an untouchable. She she want's to have peace and justice in India. She has to do all kinds of dirty jobs that the upper classes don't have to do. The untouchables cant be around the people in the upper classes. When they come around the people in the upper class system they have to bang too sticks together so they know when the untouchables are coming.

The way that this effects me as an american is that we also have a class system. The thing that is different is that we don't have as many strict polices and rules. This also effects me because I think that India's caste system is unfair.I think that it should be just like ours.

  22. This article was about India's caste system and how it made Maya, an untouchable, and others feel. Many people say that India's caste system is unfair and needs changed to give certain people better lives. Some Indians, such as Maya, are happy with what caste they have been assigned to. Maya takes her job very seriously and appreciates her work.

Very much like Maya we aren't rich or famous and we don't have a lot of money, but we are very thankful for what we do have. Like India the U.S. has a class system. My family and I would be in middle class. Here where we live it is easy to move back and forth between classes. This whole article affects me because it makes me realize how lucky we are in the U.S. because we don't get judged because of what class we are in.

  23. This article was about an untouchable's life in India. Her name is Maya, her job is to mainly do the dirty work. She cleans other peoples bathrooms, this job gets her about $100 a month. Also with cleaning bathrooms she is raising 3 children.

This article affects me in a couple ways as an American. One way is that we have people that clean buildings for us like janitors, not just some random person. Another is that if you have a job to do, you do it. This was a couple ways this article affected me as an American.

  24. This article was about the caste system in India. The Mayan`s are untouchables because of the caste system. Unlike others, the Mayan`s like being untouchables. Many others think the caste system is unfair and don`t like it.
In the U.S, we have a similar class system. We go by how much money is made a year. Not many people would be in the upper class. Money is hard these days. Most families are in the middle class.

  25. This article is about the caste system in India. It has a story of an untouchable named Maya. It tells us about the business she has started and her family. She mainly does dirty work for other people.

This article affects me because here we don't have this and hearing about it happening somewhere else throughout many years, I would not want to be there. I would do the same thing as Maya and be snotty if people are not liking the work I do, they can do it themselves. Also if my son would not except where he came from, I wouldn't be proud and probably wouldn't take money. I would also be very sad if i started a business and not one of my kids took it over when i retired.

This article affects me in a few ways as an American. We should never take advantage of the janitors that clean up after us at school and at other public places.Plus if you have a job stick with it.We should be very thankful for all that we have as Americans.

  27. This article is about a woman named Maya. She is part of the caste system in India, and she happens to be on the lower side. Maya is an untouchable. The untouchables are different here in the 20th century though. They clean houses and buildings, do plumbing, etc. Maya is paid very little, $100 a month, and was assigned to her house when she was 16. She has a husband and three children.

This article affects me as an american because I just learned about the caste system in India. I thought it was a thing of the past, and was startled when I found out it still exists. The caste system is very discriminating, and it makes me sad to think people still have to go through it. At least it is less horrible, since they don't have to carry out corpses.

  28. This article is about an untoucheable named Maya who is somewhat higher than the other untouchables. She is a little bit wealther than other untouchables. But she doesn't really like the life of being an untouchable.

This affects me as an american by it showing me somewhat of what life was like back in the 1700's to the 1800's. It tells me that america has came a long way from india's current situation.

  29. this article was about the caste system of India. The caste system causes a person to be stuck in one job. Most people do not get rich in the caste system but Maya did. Maya lived from 1977 and became rich. Many people of the caste system are working as did Maya she worked and worked to become very successful. For Maya she lived a very rich life and had a son who worked for the government and her husband worked as a gofer for science.
This article affects me because what if i were part of this caste system? If i were part of the caste system i wold probably be a commoner and live a almost normal life. Though I would have to get use to a caste system i would not like it. People of today (besides India) most likely don't know what a caste system is like. The fact that this caste system is a sad and happy, wacky,i think we all have felt the way one of the caste system people would feel like.

  30. This artical is about the class system and about a girl called Maya. She was a house worker and that she had no money because of the Mayans ways. When she got married at 16.People like her were fourth in the caste systm. She she one day got branded because she didn`t do her job right.Maya soon hopes to retire.

I can relate to this story because if i had a job to do i would do it.This story can also relate because i would try my best to food on my table. It also relates to me becuase i know how hard jobs are to day.

  31. This article is about the India cast system and a lady named Maya. Maya is an untouchable or(dalit). Maya her days taking away the trash. Except that the athoritys want vans to take away the trash. Maya and the other untouchables managed to stop them for now,but Maya doesn't think it will last much longer.

This afects me as an American because,It shows how things might have been if things like the Civel War hadn't happened. Article makes me wonder what would happen if I lived there and how luck I am to not to live that life. Though we do have a simulare cast system.

  32. This article is about an untouchable woman named Maya. An untouchable is the lowest class of the Indian caste system, there are three other classes, towns people, warriors, and kings (and priests.) The poor woman has to clean the bathrooms and take care of the trash in several homes in one neighborhood. The homeowners show her the littlest of respect, seeing as the best they ever do for her is give her a meal on her own separate dishes away from the rest of the family. She only makes around 100 dollars a week and she gets most of her money from her husband who is from what I understand is a test subject for the government, but she refuses to retire since she some how doesn't mind the lifestyle she is living.
This effects me as an American because it makes me feel sorry for what some people in other countries have to do to make so little. I feel that a lot of Americans don't really understand what freedom is worth because they've always had it, its always been there and they don't know how bad it is to not have freedom. It makes me wonder what would happen if the Americans and the Indians switched places for a day. the Indians would be in Luxury, whereas the Americans would probably just sit there and whine about having to do so much work.

  33. This article is about a untouchable. A untouchable is lower then caste system. There are four people in the caste system. The woman has to take care of the bathrooms and trash.

This effects me as an American because in america we don`t have to do that if we don`t wont to. also it is rude.

  34. This article is about a woman born into the untouchable caste. Her name is Maya. She sai she still has to life because it is the best life she can have. She has to cling sticks when she is walking throug town.

This would affect me as an American because I wouldn't want to have hardly any friends. I would also not want to carry sticks around so people would know not to touch me. I would still have to live as an untouchable, but it would be the best life I could ever have. I am glad to be an American.
